In Everything Give Thanks!

First, Happy Thanksgiving!I’m sitting here thinking of what I’m thankful for the most  or the top five things I want to give “big ups” about. The truth is, I’m thankful for all things. Just imagine if we all had a revelation of how important, at all times, to be glad about all that happens in life. How could we be depressed? How could we be worried? How could we complain?

The bible says, “In every thing give thanks.” This may not be a very popular scripture. And I’m not trying to be deep or overly spiritual about this today. I’m just truly grateful for everything……my wife, children, family, church home, legs, feet, hands, the sun, the good, the bad, the ugly, you get the picture.

But more importantly, is the fact that this is a commandment for the believer. We must give thanks in everything. So don’t worry about the struggling economy or anything that you’re “In” right now. Just give thanks always.

Here’s a video to help keep all this in perspective.

Open Your Mouth!

On your mark. Get ready. Get Set. Go! How many times have we often heard these words declared? Well for me it’s a charge to keep. Yesterday my pastor PREACHED a powerful message about the power of the tongue. And the fact that we have authority to speak our future into existence was a revelation out of this world. I heard that phrase before, but how he explained it is definitely liberating.

From now on….literally the rest of my life. I must recognize the power that God has given me through the use of my tongue. Never sway from operating in my authority and declare HIS WORD over every situation that I face.

Proverbs 18:1 “Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. ”

Speak life. Speak life. Speak life.

Leaders Need Our Prayers

In a recent article by the Times-Union about Jacksonville’s new councilmen facing a number of challenges. My thoughts were spawned to think about how needful it is for the believers to cover our leaders in prayer. Not just national, but state and local as well. Despite who we may have voted for or may not have voted for- they are still in positions of authority. We must cover them. They need God’s wisdom, direction,  and protection. Hey, if someone is in a position to make decision’s on your behalf woudn’t you want to pray for them? I know I would.

I Timothy 2:1-2 (NLT) I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make your requests, plead for God’s mercy upon them, and give thanks. 2 Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity.

Big Ups For City Rescue Mission!

OK I admit….I failed to post a blog yesterday! But today I want to give a huge shout out for City Rescue Mission here in Jacksovnille. It has been extremely cold here. It’s almost as if we skipped Fall and move directly into Winter. The Florida Times- Union highlighted the significant work of CRM in a way that really made me glad to see that there are many groups out their doing phenomenal work for those less fortunate. While I’m sure that there are many others wotking in the same capacity, CRM really stood out..

Jesus said in Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.

This was the living Gospel on display. Keep up the good work CRM! To read the article click the link below. I’ve also posted this to my Facebook page.

Lay Aside The Weight

In light of everything that’s taking place in our economy. I think it’s really important that we self-examine to see if there is any place in our lives that need trimming. It’s very easy to point fingers at high earning CEOs with disgust as their companies crumble faster that Graham crackers in a new box. Yet, if we are honest with ourselves we very well would find waste in our own lives. Much of this is nothing more than exra stuff that’s not needed.Since  we are called to be the light of the world we have a mandate to ensure that there’s nothing that would prevent us from being just that. This weight, that diminishes the light, could be too much unhealthy eating, unnecessary shopping, self-pride, alcohol, dishonesty, illegal drugs, illicit sex, you name it- whatever it is. There is no little sin vs. big sin. Ask God to give you the strength to let it GO! Our words have power. So much so that with our tongue we can control life and death…check it out in the book of Proverbs!

Speak no more weights in your life. I know that’s why I’m doing. January- why wait for a New Year’s resolution. Get rid of it now.
That’s my story….and I’m sticking with it. What’s yours?
