Day 52 Good Everyday Kansas

The tour rolls on into Kansas. We’re making tremendous progress in the tour.

The focus today is on Youth Horizons in Witchita, Kansas.

Introduction and History of Youth Horizons from Youth Horizons on Vimeo.

Youth Horizons Program from Youth Horizons on Vimeo.

According to their site:

We empower children and their families to become healthy and productive members of our community. We create nationwide awareness of the needs of at-risk youth. We accomplish our mission by matching children with Christian mentors and providing a safe and structured home environment for boys in our residential program.

The kids we serve represent all races and include both boys and girls. All of the children we serve come from single-parent homes; usually the kids in our program grow up fatherless. The needs and risk factors associated with fatherless children are staggering.

This is a huge need. Mentoring the fatherless can have a far-reaching impact on lives. When you get a chance, check out The Mentoring Project that Donald Miller has founded. Great organization that is still in its infancy but making an impact already.

Serving the fatherless is a huge need! I've heard of Miller's project. I will check it out.

Thanks for highlighting the work of Youth Horizons on your blog. Randy is right – mentoring the fatherless is a huge need. I am the mentoring director at Youth Horizons and feel privileged to be a part of this work
