This excerpt below is from my entry in the local Investing In You contest.
Our idea is to create an open source app for local government that increases transparency and accountability.
NowJax will be Jacksonville’s main source of government information and non-emergency services. Whether you’re a resident, business owner, or visitor, help is just a app away.
Imagine being able to report building graffiti, potholes and other street conditions, street signs, streetlight repair, tree damage, dirty vacant lots, and homeless assistance from your smartphone.
You will be able to:
• Text us
• Skype us
• Follow us on Twitter
• Read our blog
• Download our app
NowJax’s mission is to provide the public with quick, easy access to all City Of Jacksonville government services and information while maintaining the highest possible level of customer service.
We will help departments improve service delivery by allowing them to focus on their core missions and manage their workload efficiently.
We also provide insight into ways to improve city government through accurate, consistent measurement and analysis of service delivery Citywide.
We plan to help make government services more accessible to non-English speakers.
We plan to share our data to support transparency and accountability.
With NowJax Jacksonville will become one of the cities using open source technology for a more engaged community such as New York, Boston, and San Francisco. Content for the description of this app was taken from 311NYC.
