Yesterday, I made the pitch. Well, I thought about it. And it is not exactly as I thought it would be. Let me explain.
Two significant things came to light:
- First: There are legal implications if you say you are holding a contest, competition, or anything of the like. Thus, I will not have the contest. At least not now. Personally, I really don’t want be bothered with unnecessary policies as an early startup. Time and resources are too limited. I prefer to be agile in my experiences. Lighter is better for me now. Focusing on creating with less restrictions is key.
- Second: I received an email that I wasn’t expecting to receive. I sent it to the recipient late last month. Because it had been so long for the reply. I forgot about it and moved on. But like providence, it was a confirmation for what I needed to do.
Why is the key for me. I am a teacher. Even though, I am not in the classroom. My first real job was in a middle school. Not too mention, I received a nice award for my efforts a local high school. Why am I sharing this? Because at the root of most things that I do, I seek to share valuable information. Sounds like teaching huh?
Thus, the event will still be an event, but more of a session-symposium-lecture-motivational rally-pump you up kind of event. Just NOT an awards ceremony for local social media users.
So here it is…..the pitch- again.
Hi! I’m Dewitt Robinson, I want to host an event that solves the problem of getting funding for early stage projects. I want to bring two members of the Rockethub team to my city for a 1 day, intense and empowering session. Specifically, a start up event for the next generation of thought leaders in our city. Topics will include the idea stage and fundraising. Yes, it sounds like a huge task, but I am up for it. Yes, it may sound like the other national and international events. However, my focus is on helping those that do business in Jacksonville. That’s why it’s called NowJax!
I need help with raising the funds to cover the cost of the speakers and their accommodations. Not too mention, funds are need to rent the facility and marketing.
The purpose is to inform, engage, and motivate inspiring start ups. To spark a movement in our city of creativity and job creation. Who else better to share other than the team that has built a platform to do just that?
I’ve searched throughout the blogosphere in our city. To date- there is nothing else like it in our community. The funds will help me take my efforts to a new level of exposure and impact for those that need assistance getting off the ground. Help me launch the project in early 2012.
This is the revised version. Stay tuned for more details.
